Description
A black paper photo album (about 12" x 9") singularly documenting the WWI service of an Elmer D. Hill (1898-1941) of St. Louis while serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in France (Company "F" Second Depot Battalion Signal Corps S 302 Second Phase ; June 1918 to June 1919).It contains about 125 mounted snapshot, RPPC, and enlarged views uncommonly well notated in white album pen and with frequent vignette drawings in the same. Contains 50+ additional loose snapshots of Hill's family life after the War.
He appears to have grown up the youngest of 5 in north St. Louis and later settled in California working as a telephone installer (a skill he seems to have picked up in the Signal Corps) until an untimely death in Los Angeles in 1941.
