    Description

Neat image of Lt Sylvan Jay Crooker, a Signal Corps officer who was stationed in Washington DC during the war.  He joined up in July 1918 and was discharged in February of 1919.
Prior to the war he was an adjunct professor of physics at the University of Illinois, he was researching the physics of electricity as well as vacuum tube applications. In the 1930s he invented a new type of golf club as well, as he was an avid golfer.  Born in Minnesota, he lived most of his adult life in Virginia.
Image is fairly clear, but is loose in the folder (as is the frame).  It is named twice on the back of the photo.  Should you so desire you could easily glue the image and frame back into the folder and no one would be the wiser (but this is how I got it).   Front of the folder has a Federal eagle and navy insignia embossed on it.
