Description
For your consideration is this extremely rare WWI bronze medal awarded to American Army Air Service aviators training in Foggia Italy by the Italian government. The front of the medal shows the crossed flags of America and Italy and reads: “CAMPO SCUOLA AVIATORI FOGGIA OVEST", which translates to "Aviators School Camp Foggia West" and the reverse shows the Italian Cadet Pilot emblem in nice relief detail - it flies over where the recipient could engrave his name. This medal is quite rare, so rare in fact, that average collectors are unaware of its existence and avid collectors may still be searching, unable to locate one in Italy or America. The condition is the best we've seen (only two other examples could be found online) but we encourage you to study our high-resolution photos for exact detail. It is unknown if these every came with a ribbon or attachment as both other known examples were in the exact state as the one we are offering here. It measures approximately 1" across. We are listing this for the price of the last one we sold several years ago, and this one's in better condition.
