RARE CUBAN ORIGINAL 1968 SERIGRAPH
Up for sale is one of the most important original Cuban serigraphs ever made: An Original 1968 poster celebrating the legendary revolutionist Ernesto "Che" Guevara "HASTA LA VICTORIA SIEMPRE" (Onwards Forever to Victory). This poster was created to coincide with a documentary film made by Cuba's premier filmmaker Santiago Alvarez. Che is one of the top ten most important and influential leaders of the 20th Century. His history with Cuba is profound. This poster was HANDMADE in Cuba in the year following his death. It's a silkscreen (or serigraph) print, which is a fine-art medium. Very few of the first printing originals have survived outside of museums or libraries. This is one of the only originals ever offered for sale here in the United States. This is NOT one of the numerous reprints being sold as "second editions" that are out there. You'll notice that this is different than the cheap re-pops that are being offered. Notice the small text on the poster. On the reprints the type was reset. Also, the primary image of Che, which was taken from the very famous photograph executed by Cuban photographer Alberto Korda, is much more solid in color on this 1968 original than on the fakes. This poster was considered a serious art statement at the time and was designed by Cuba's best graphic artist Alfredo Rostgaard. It would make a perfect addition to any advanced collection that represents international film, or, political poster art. Heck, you're not going to find better representation on Che in any form. This piece is perfect from that perspective!
