PLATE MATE
The “Mitchel’s PlateMate” is a simple device that has been around
for a long time but often remains over looked and undiscovered.
This simple device is an easy way to get enhanced tone
and improved tuning stability from your guitar.
The Plate Mate works by translating more string energy
into the sound plate, top and bridge of the guitar.
Although the Plate Mate was first designed to provide guitarists
with a simple solution to repairing a worn out bridge plate it
quickly found favor with players “in the know” as a tone enhancer.
The Plate Mate is not seen and can be used with any bridge pin material.
Since it works directly where the ball end of the string meets the bridge
plate of the guitar more string energy is translated into the guitars top
than what simply using a bridge pin can provide, this equals more tone.
Add in the fact that the Plate Mate also protects the guitars bridge
plate from wearing out, I can not recommend it any more highly.
NOTICE:
Mitchel’s Plate Mate are designed for use with
STEEL String guitars that have
STRAIGHT LINE PINNED Bridges.
If your guitar has a PINLESS Bridge,
a bridge with a CURVED pin pattern
or is a NYLON String / CLASSICAL
style guitar the Mitchel’s Plate Mate
can
NOT
be installed in your guitar.

When restringing the guitar it is important to make sure
the
ball ends of the
strings
are
well seated
.
If the ball end
of the string
isn’t
held properly
against the bridge plate, the string can actually start to
cut
into the
guitar’s bridge
plate.
A worn Bridge Plate negatively affects the guitars tuning stability and sound.
Left unchecked
and
the damage
can
proceed deeper
damaging
the guitar’
s
soundboard and bridge
as well.
How can you stop this from happening?
If it’s already happened what
can
you do?
Replacing the bridge plate is an expensive repair, it requires patching or removing the current plate, making a patch or new plate and installing it.
That’s a tricky and involved job, replacing a bridge plate should be avoided if possible.

he
Plate Mate
is
made from
brass
and is mounted to the
bridge plate
for the
quick fix
of
a worn plate.
There are some players who
use
the Plate Mate as a preventative measure,
others use it to improve the guitars tonality – why not do both!

The Plate Mate has an adhesive tape strip on the back.
Simply remove the adhesive strip covering and press the Plate Mate
in place using one or two of the guitars bridge pins for alignment.
Make a couple practice attempts BEFORE the adhesive strips protective sheet is removed.
The adhesive tape works well provided it is not adhered over dirt or dust.
Use a  800 grit or above sand paper wrapped around a 9volt battery to "clean"
the area the Plate Mate will be installed and then wipe off with a damp cloth
to clean and let dry; this allows the adhesive tape to attach more securely.
Some people glue the plate on but that is really not necessary
if the guitars bridge plate is clean and clear of dust.

Many sellers do not possess a working knowledge of the Takamine equipment they are selling and simply send merchandise without examining the item being sold.
As a guitarist, artist and former touring musician I understand how important this equipment is to the individual purchasing it; most of my customers are casual players but for some of my clients the part being purchased is needed for work and making a livelihood – an extended downtime can make for some potentially hungry days!
My endeavors are not approached as a mere "numbers game" or how many boxes of product I can move, for me it is much more personal, most of my clients work very hard for their money; I appreciate and respect the fact they have chosen me to do business with.
It is much easier for me to check the product for the customer before it is sent rather than wasting time discovering a defective part after it has shipped; this is how I have always operated; it takes more of a commitment but my clients appreciate it – they know they can trust me to do the job right!
